Last Friday I went on a nature hike with Jim, who is a Biology teacher, nature lover and hardcore nature photographer. This is my first time shooting nature macro and I have so much to learn!
We saw quite a few bugs and a lot of mushrooms. : )

The wasp above, according to Jim’s blog post, is called Pelecinus polyturator. How awesome is the name?
Here’s Jim, concentrating on shooting a bee. I remember when I first met him in 2009, he told me about his love for nature photography, where he keeps people out of his shots, while I put people in my shots. So here I am, putting Jim in my shot.
All photos were shot with my Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro lens.
I told Jim I wanted to photograph mushrooms and he found quite a few for me. So there I was, shooting mushrooms like I’ve never seen a mushroom before.

Giant mushroom.
And how about a black and white one?
Please head over to Jim’s amazing blog to see more of his work! I can’t help but wonder, if I had a Biology teacher as enthusiastic as Jim is, my whole life could be a different story. He is so passionate about teaching and the nature, it’s such an honor to be shooting with him. Thanks, Jim!
warmly,
Ai Ling
