siem reap, cambodia – day one

With Ian at my parent’s house, I managed to do a quick trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia with my very good friend, Sook Kin. Although it was a short trip, we enjoyed Siem Reap and managed to visit many of the temples.
It was beyond good.
Love, love, love the history and architecture!

First day : Preah Khan, Prasat Neak Pean, East Mebon, Banteay Srei, Pre Rup, and wrapping the day up with a traditional Khmer dance performance at dinner.

Preah Khan is a temple built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII.

I am amazed by the apsara carvings. An apsara is a female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist mythology.

A collection of five ponds, Prasat Neak Pean was built in second half of the 12th century by king Jayavarman VII, dedicated to Buddhist, with following to Prasat Bayon art style.

The East Mebon is a 10th Century temple built during the reign of King Rajendravarman. The temple was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and honors the parents of the king.

Banteay Srei is a 10th century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The temple was built largely of red sandstone, and is known for the intricacy of its carvings.

On our way to the next destination, we stopped to check out the palm sugar stalls by the road.

Next was Pre Rup. Pre Rup is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. It was built as the state temple of Khmer king Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961 or early 962.

We attended the traditional Khmer dance performance.

Part 2 coming right up, do check back if you are interested!

warmly,
Ai Ling

kah wei

My trip home this time was a good one. I have known Kah Wei since elementary school, and it made me so incredibly happy and proud to be able to photograph her – even though it was just a mini session.

Ian gets a cameo.
